National Women's Education Center of Japan will hold FY2025 NWEC Global Seminar featuring "Addressing Technology-Facilitated Gender Based Violence (TFGBV): Approaches to Eradicate the Invisible Harm".

1. Objectives

Rapid technological advancements have certainly made our lives more convenient, however, they have also created a new challenge: Technology-Facilitated Gender-based Violence (TFGBV). This includes the rapidly escalating issue of sexual violence and exploitation within cyberspace. The number of individuals impacted by this violence, especially women and children, is rapidly increasing worldwide, and the methods employed by the perpetrators are becoming increasingly complex and malicious every day.
This seminar will address this pressing issue. The program feature prevention strategies, victim support measures, and the current status and challenges of legal frameworks. We will draw upon best practices from abroad and provide a detailed overview of the current situation of cyber sexual violence in Japan. Building on this foundational knowledge, a live panel discussion will be held to explore what specific measures are necessary in Japan to eradicate sexual violence in cyberspace.
