Visit by Taiwan's K-12 Education Administration, Ministry of Education

Date:November 21, 2025

On November 21, a 16-member "Education New Dialogue Japan Visit Training Delegation" from the K-12 Education Administration, Ministry of Education, Taiwan (led by Mr. Chang Yu Meng) visited NWEC. The delegation members were young people with diverse backgrounds, including students, educators, community development specialists, and social advocacy activists. Mr. Chang stated, "Taiwan is also focusing on gender mainstreaming and gender-equal education. We admire NWEC's unique integrated functions of research, training, policy support, and international cooperation. We hope to learn not just about the content of policies, but also the practical process of 'how to implement these policies in real society and change people's lives' during this visit."
Following this, the group toured the facilities, visiting the Women's Education Information Center to observe the management of its collection and newspaper clippings. At the Women's Archives Center special exhibition, they keenly inspected the display of valuable documents related to NWEC's history and establishment, with several members seen taking notes on the staff's explanations. In the second half, during the exchange of opinions, the delegation members first gave a presentation on gender equality in Taiwan. They shared challenges such as the gender wage gap, the existence of the so-called "glass ceiling," and unequal distribution of domestic labor within households, even while acknowledging progress in areas like equal opportunities in education and women lawmakers occupying about 40% of legislative seats in Taiwan. Taiwan's family registration system (such as the option to choose a parent's surname) was also introduced, highlighting similarities and differences with Japan. The subsequent discussion with NWEC staff involved an active exchange of views on topics including the education system, Japanese politics, and the status of women leaders.
